Jeffrey Imerman is the co-founder of Imerman Cake Company, a Michigan-based wholesale supplier of delicious organic coffeecakes. A lawyer and former TV journalist, Jeffrey became passionate about the organic food movement after his younger brother’s battle with cancer in 2002, when he began learning more about the importance of eating foods without synthetic pesticides, antibiotics and growth hormones, and genetically modified ingredients. He is a strong believer that foods made with the purest ingredients lead to better health and wellbeing. The cakes are made with all organic ingredients. And, a portion of each sale is donated to his brother’s worldwide cancer-support non-profit organization - Imerman Angel - which connects a person fighting cancer with someone who has survived that same type of cancer.
Jeffrey earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 1996. He was a reporter/weekend-anchor at the NBC affiliate in Joplin, Missouri and then a reporter at the ABC affiliate in Lexington, Kentucky.
During those four years, Jeffrey received two Associated Press awards for his reporting. Jeffrey then worked in public relations at Marx Layne & Company in Farmington Hills, before attending Duke University School of Law. Jeffrey was on the Duke Law Journal and earned his Juris Doctor in 2005. He returned to Michigan to be a federal law clerk for the Honorable Bernard A. Friedman in the Eastern District of Michigan (Detroit). He then lived in New York City for three years, where he was a litigation associate at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. (The American Lawyer has nationally named Paul, Weiss as the Litigation Department of the Year.) But ultimately, he was drawn back home to his Michigan roots and motivated by a desire to make an impact in the community in which he was raised. He now lives in Birmingham.
