Assistant Appellate Defender
State Appellate Defender Office

As an assistant Defender in the state Appellate Defender Office, Adrienne Young has represented indigent people in courts across the state, including the Michigan Supreme Court. Before joining SADO, she clerked for the Michigan Supreme Court.

Young is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, where she was awarded the Pro Bono Service Award for Excellence for her hundreds of volunteer hours. She also received a master's in education from Chestnut Hill College while she was a special education teacher.

In 2016, she was elected to the Birmingham Board of Education and still serves on the board, navigating the challenges presented by COVID-19 in the past two years. Young is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association's Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan's school-to-prison pipeline committee. She and her husband Jeffrey Bozell were co-editors of the first-ever Michigan Bar Journal about education law.

Being a public defender has made her resilient, Young said, as well as the 13 marathons she has completed. She and her husband live in Birmingham with their three children.
