While working as a teacher and athletics coach, Ryan Smith focuses on the whole child and works with these young students to also learn the value of volunteering and connecting with their community

In his fifteenth year of teaching, Smith is a physical education teacher and coach in the Novi Community School district after spending six years teaching in Detroit.

He serves in many leadership roles in the district, including being the Content Area Leader for all elective studies for the kindergarten through sixth-grade classes. He's also on the district-wide Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, striving to improve the school environments and provide equity in the school setting for all students. He helped lead a 21-day DEI challenge in the district.

Smith coaches varsity baseball and football and has been a head coach of multiple club sports programs.

He received a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University, master's degree from Michigan State University and an education specialist certificate from Wayne State University. He lives in New Hudson with his wife and son.
