With a calling to public service to the community, Judge Jacob Cunningham's work in the Family Division of Oakland County Circuit Court is having a daily impact on the lives of the county's residents.

In his first year of serving on the bench, he was asked to sit on the Michigan Supreme Court's Child Welfare Leadership Workgroup, formed to address the pressing needs of children in the foster care system. He also is the presiding judge of the court's Juvenile Drug Treatment program, which provides intensive services to non-violent youth offenders charged with drug or alcohol-related offenses.

Before being elected judge, the first member of the LGBTQ community to win a seat, Cunningham was a judicial clerk for Oakland Circuit Judge Wendy Potts and the judicial staff attorney for Oakland Circuit Judge Mary Ellen Brennan.

He is an honorary board member of the Restore Foundation and a member of the Ferndale Elks Lodge.

Cunningham received a bachelor's degree from Oakland University and a law degree from the Thomas Cooley School of Law in Auburn Hills. He lives in Ferndale.
