As an educator, Vernon Burden has mentored thousands of students who have gone on to be major contributors to our county in business, industry, the arts, athletics and education.

Currently the assistant principal of Lake Orion Community High School, Burden has been in education for 17 years, including 13 years as a Southfield Public Schools teacher and administrator and the last four years in Lake Orion.

He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Findlay in Ohio, a master's degree from Eastern Michigan University and an education specialist degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He serves on the Oakland Schools Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee and is a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the Life Church in Canton. He lives in Farmington Hills with his wife and two children.
