Police Lieutenant
Oakland University Police Department

Nicole Thompson is a Lieutenant with the Oakland University Police Department and has served the Oakland University community with dedication and integrity for 14 years. She is currently the youngest and only female to hold the position of police Lieutenant in the history of the department.

Thompson holds a Bachelor's Degree from Michigan State University and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Oakland University. She is also a graduate of the 2016 MSU School of Staff and Command, a police executive school for leaders in the law enforcement field.

At OU, she focuses on raising awareness and prevention of domestic violence, sexual assault and mental health by collaborating with key areas around campus and other agencies in Oakland County. Currently, a member of the OU Grizzlies Care Team, whose focus is on behavioral concerns at the University, she is also a member of the Auburn Hills High Risk Response Team and Oakland County's HAVEN Sexual Assault Response Team.

As the facilitator for multiple charitable events that the Oakland University Police Department has sponsored, Thompson leads the annual toy drive for children spending Christmas in the hospital, Breast Cancer Awareness Month fundraisers, charity softball games to raise money for HAVEN, a collection of toiletries and nonperishable food for homeless veterans, and the annual Shop With a Hero event.

During her time in the department, she received a Life Saving Citation for successfully performing CPR on one of her Sergeants who was having a heart attack during an annual firearms training.

In her spare time, she and her husband are enthusiastic Michigan State fans. She enjoys spending time with her two daughters and is the co-captain of her church safety team. Thompson is a resident of Ray.
