Jenny Poma is a Macomb County native living in Detroit for the past 10 years and has spent the vast majority of her professional life devoted to addressing poverty in Oakland County.

Studying Psychology and Sociology at Oakland University, she worked as a youth probation officer for Oakland County Probation Department and served two AmeriCorps terms, working with youth of Pontiac. Through AmeriCorps, Poma implemented after-school enrichment and tutoring programs and established a youth community service enrichment program.

She established socially-minded curriculum, taught youth about global poverty and helped them fundraise to donate a goat to a family through The Heifer International Project. She took the children on a four-day trip to Niagara Falls and The Heifer International Headquarters in Massachusetts.

After earning a Master's degree in Social Work at Wayne State University in 2008, Poma managed a $300,000 USDA-funded urban farming initiative on the east side of Detroit and implemented a local grant to create safe and well-lit pathways for children walking to school.

She moved to the homeless service's landscape in Oakland County and now serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Lighthouse.
