Rochester High School

Mr. David A. Uhrig is in his fifth year as the Director of Bands at Rochester High School, where he directs the Falcon Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band and Pit Orchestra for the musicals.

Mr. Uhrig earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Michigan and his teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University. Mr. Uhrig earned his Master of Music in Conducting from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University. In college, he was very active in the Michigan Marching Band, serving as a rank and line leader. He played trumpet in many concert and athletic bands and had the honor of conducting the Michigan Basketball Band upon many occasions. Mr. Uhrig is also a member of the Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity.

Prior to taking the position in Rochester, Mr. Uhrig was the Director of Bands at Marine City High School for six years and the Whiteford Agricultural School District for one year. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Uhrig is the Associate Conductor and plays the Bb soprano cornet in America’s Premier 19th Century Brass Band, the Dodworth Saxhorn Band. He also writes marching band shows for the Michigan Marching Band and several high school marching bands in Michigan, Texas, New Jersey, and Virginia.

Mr. Uhrig was raised in Troy, Michigan, where he attended Troy Athens High School. While in school, he participated in the marching, concert, jazz and pep bands, symphony and pit orchestras, and was a member of the National Honor Society. Outside of school, he was involved in the Boy Scouts of America, travel soccer, and playing piano. Aside from teaching, Mr. Uhrig is an avid sports fan and loves Michigan football & basketball, and the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Pistons, and Red Wings. Mr. Uhrig and his wife Carly have been married for 8 years, and they have two sons, Raymond & Benjamin.
