Research Scientist and Assistant Professor
Beaumont Health

Dr. Laura Lamb is an award-winning scientist at Beaumont Health and Assistant Professor of Urology for Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Her research has improved our understanding of cancer, cancer survivorship issues, and bladder dysfunction. She has over 25 peer-reviewed publications and is an inventor with several patents, including methods for detection of zika virus and urology conditions including interstitial cystitis. Dr. Lamb enjoys teaching and mentoring students at all levels as well as educating the public and policymakers on how research and science impact their lives. This includes being a role model with the STEMinista Project with the Michigan Science Center.

Dr. Lamb was inspired to become a scientist to improve people’s lives when her grandfather, grandmother, and mother passed away from aggressive cancers at young ages. Dr. Lamb earned her Bachelors of Biomedical Science at Grand Valley State University and her Doctorate of Philosophy in Cell and Molecular Biology from Michigan State University. She trained at Van Andel Research Institute in Grand Rapids and Washington University in St. Louis before being recruited to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Originally from Clinton Township, Dr. Lamb and her husband were thrilled to come back to Michigan.

Dr. Lamb met her incredible and supportive husband, Shannon, while attending rival Dakota and Chippewa Valley High Schools. They have reconciled their dissonant high school football loyalties by watching Falcon football games together at Groves High School. A proud mother of two, Dr. Lamb loves watching her children grow. They enjoy exploring many of the areas local parks including the Douglas Evan Nature Preserve or going to the Detroit Zoo on a weekly basis.

Dr. Lamb enjoys travel, all music from 90s rap to Broadway, dark chocolate, and spending time with her family and dog.
