Joann Wrobel, a registered dietitian and international board-certified lactation consultant, affirms that building healthier communities begins with maternal and child nutrition.

As the public health nutrition supervisor for the Oakland County Health Division, she oversees the Nutrition Services unit, which supports mothers and children who have medical conditions and limited access to affordable, healthy food. Wrobel is also the creator and lead facilitator of the Oakland County Baby Café, which provides free breastfeeding and infant feeding support for families.

Additionally, she is a member of Healthy Pontiac, We Can and Oakland County Food Policy Council, both of which improve food access for residents.

Wrobel, a Birmingham resident, earned her bachelor’s degree in dietetics from Michigan State University and her master’s degree in nutrition and wellness from Benedictine University in Illinois.
