Inspiring the next generation of scientists, Lizz Parkinson is dedicated to making science education accessible, engaging and fun.

Through her role as the head of the Bloomfield Hills-based Freshwater Forum, Parkinson supervises the Rouge River Water Festival and Water on the Go! Program which teaches elementary students about freshwater and environmental issues. She also partners with Oakland County's Water Resources Commissioner for its Blue Planet Job Fair and Oakland University's Clinton River Water Festival.

In 2022, the National Science Foundation awarded a Graduate Research Fellowship to Parkinson for her work on the impact of artificial light at night on freshwater ecosystems, particularly on insects. Her work has been published in the Royal Society and PLOS ONE scientific journals.

Parkinson received a bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University and a master's degree and is working on her Ph.D., both from Oakland University. Parkinson resides in Madison Heights.
