Statement from Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash

Wixom Road Sinkhole

Post Date:08/30/2023 12:45 PM

My team, in collaboration with D’Angelo Brothers Utilities and the City of Wixom, is actively addressing a sinkhole in a century-old storm drain pipe on Wixom Road, just north of Pontiac Trail. An investigation revealed that this sinkhole was caused by a leaking portion of the Tribute Drain that deteriorated and resulted in a failure of the storm drain pipe. Recognizing the urgency of public health and safety for residents, we are committed to swiftly replacing 70 feet of the 12-inch pipe to restore the storm system’s integrity. This effort underscores the significance of upgrading aging infrastructure to ensure the long-term functionality of essential systems. We understand the inconvenience and the community’s anticipation for the road to be operational again. An update will be posted as repairs progress. Your patience and support are appreciated.
