PONTIAC, Mich. - This morning, Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged 44-year-old Gregory Keyier-Deniro Davis in connection with the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, a 40-year-old Sterling Heights woman. Davis is charged with first-degree Premeditated Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felonious Assault, and four counts of Felony Firearm Second Offense.

The shooting occurred at a car dealership where the victim was employed in Royal Oak Township this past Saturday, May 20, 2023. It is alleged that Davis followed the victim into the parking lot and used his vehicle to block her vehicle. The victim exited her vehicle to get help and Davis shot her as she was running away and then shot her again at close range with a 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun. The weapon was allegedly taken from someone else. Their 10-year-old child witnessed the shooting from the passenger seat of the victim’s vehicle. After shooting the victim, Davis allegedly pointed the gun and shot at additional individuals. Davis surrendered himself to police later that same day and is in custody at the Oakland County Jail.

“This is a horrific and tragic incident,” stated Oakland County Prosecutor McDonald. “Every month an average of 70 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner in this country. This event occurred in a place of business where other employees were just a few feet away. My office has charged this individual with first-degree murder, the most serious charge under Michigan law, and we will vigorously prosecute this perpetrator for his alleged actions.”

First-degree Premeditated Murder is a felony offense punishable by up to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Assault with Intent to Murder is a felony offense punishable by imprisonment for life or any number of years. Felon in Possession of a Firearm is a felony offense punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and/or $5,000 fine. Felonious Assault is a felony offense punishable by up to 4 years imprisonment and/or a $2,000 fine. Felony Firearm Second Offense carries a sentence of 5 years mandatory imprisonment.

The arraignment is expected to take place at 12:15 pm in the 45th District Court in Oak Park.

Criminal charges are accusations, and all individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
