A precautionary boil water advisory was issued July 14, 2026 for two Oakland Township water systems, and is still in place for the North Pressure District of Southeast Oakland Township. The Knorrwood Knolls boil water advisory ended today, July 17.
What caused the advisory? Loss of pressure has been identified as the reason for the precautionary boil water advisory from a power failure event. Whenever a water system loses pressure for any significant length of time, precautionary measures are recommended because a loss of pressure can lead to bacterial contamination in the water system. Bacteria generally are not harmful and are common throughout our environment.
Although no contamination has been detected, as a precaution, all water customers in the North Pressure District are advised to boil water used for drinking and cooking. Boiling the water will kill bacteria and other organisms that may be in the water.
Water should be boiled for at least one minute and allowed to cool before consumption. Boiled, bottled or disinfected water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice. All residents connected to the community water supply in the affected area should boil their water. The water system in this area will be flushed and samples will be collected. The boil water notice will be lifted once the laboratory confirms that the water is safe to drink.
Now that the advisory has ended, we recommend Knorrwood Knolls residents take these steps in their homes:
- Turn on your tap slowly and run the water to flush water pipes for five minutes.
- Empty your automatic ice maker and discard all ice made during the advisory.
- Run a few cycles of ice production and throw those batches away to fully flush the ice maker's water line before using the ice again.
