Kelli Bryant Pled as Charged to First Degree Child Abuse in Child Abandonment Case

Post Date:07/16/2026 2:54 PM
PONTIAC, Mich. – Kelli Bryant pled no contest as charged to three counts of First Degree Child Abuse Thursday in Sixth Circuit Court. Under the terms of her plea agreement, Bryant will serve at least six years in prison.
Bryant, a 35-year-old Pontiac resident, effectively abandoned her three children in a squalid apartment without running water or functioning toilets. For several years, the children lived alone and did not go outside or attend school. Bryant would periodically drop off food at their doorstep. The children were discovered by Oakland County Sheriff's deputies performing a welfare check in February 2025.
“This plea will spare the children from testifying at trial and ensures Bryant remains incarcerated until they are all adults,” said Prosecutor McDonald. “I'm hopeful the children she victimized will continue to have the space and resources to heal from this abhorrent trauma.”
Bryant previously pleaded as charged to three counts of Welfare Fraud in December. Her parental rights were terminated in family court in April.
Bryant is scheduled to be sentenced on September 1st in Sixth Circuit Court.
