PONTIAC, Mich. – Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Ricky Kahil McLaurin, a 47-year-old resident of Detroit, with Assault with Intent to Murder and Domestic Violence, Third Offense.

On May 28, the defendant allegedly battered and strangled the victim, who was described as his "on-again, off-again girlfriend," while threatening to kill her. The victim reportedly texted a family member for help, who then called the police. The defendant later turned himself in to the Southfield Police Department.

"This victim sought help, and that may have saved her life," said Prosecutor McDonald. "Women suffering domestic abuse are not alone. Resources and support are available to help victims escape abusive relationships."

Assault with Intent to Murder is punishable by any term of years in prison, up to life. Domestic Violence, Third Offense, is punishable by up to five years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.
