Pontiac, Mich., June 28, 2025—Oakland County property owners whose residential or commercial properties were foreclosed on April 1, 2025, due to unpaid 2022 or prior property taxes may be eligible to reclaim surplus funds generated from the upcoming virtual land sale auctions. Oakland County Treasurer Robert Wittenberg encourages all eligible individuals and businesses to act quickly, as the deadline to preserve their right to claim these proceeds is July 1, 2025.
This critical deadline cannot be extended under Michigan law. Property owners must submit a notarized Intent to Claim Surplus Proceeds form to ensure their eligibility before the deadline. The surplus amount, if any, will be determined upon completion of the virtual land sales, which are scheduled to begin in August 2025.
“We know this can be a difficult and emotional process. Our office is committed to helping residents and business owners understand their rights and take action before it’s too late,” said Oakland County Treasurer Robert Wittenberg. “We strongly urge anyone who lost property to foreclosure this year to file their intent to claim.”
To determine eligibility or access the Intent to Claim form, visit the Treasurer’s Office surplus proceeds page at oakgov.com/claims or call (248) 858-0611.
