Family Member Charged with Multiple Counts of First and Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct

PONTIAC, Mich. - Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Lawrence Edward Miles, a 69-year-old resident of Southfield, with three counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and two counts of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.

These charges are in connection with a series of assaults that occurred between 2024 and 2025. The defendant is accused on sexually assaulting the victims, a boy and a girl both under the age of ten years old. The defendant is a family member of the victims.

"These are extremely disturbing allegations, and the charges my office issued carry the possibility of life in prison," stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. "Children deserve to grow up safe from abuse, including from family members. I applaud the work of our partners at the Southfield Police Department and CARE House of Oakland County for their diligent investigation into this tragic case."

Law enforcement believes that there may be additional victims. We ask that anyone with information contact the Southfield Police Department.

First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct is a felony punishable by life imprisonment or any term of years with a mandatory minimum of 25 years, lifetime electronic monitoring and mandatory AIDs/STD testing. Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct is a felony punishable by up to 15 years imprisonment, lifetime electronic monitoring upon parole from prison, mandatory AIDS/STD testing, and requires DNA to be taken upon arrest.

Charges are accusations and individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
