PONTIAC, Mich. - Zvi Levran, the 68-year-old former doctor known for working with youth hockey programs, was sentenced to 10-25 years in prison followed by lifetime monitoring and lifetime registration on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry. He was sentenced today by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Jasmine Poles for 28 separate counts related to numerous incidents of sexual abuse. The Judge exceeded the sentence guidelines and gave Levran the maximum sentence under Michigan law on almost all of the charges.
The sentence was issued after three victims made impact statements to the Judge about the trauma they endured because of Levran’s abuse. Judge Poles characterized Levran’s behavior as “sociopathic,” and said she found him unrepentant as she delivered the sentence.
Levran was first charged in 2022 for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old man during a medical examination. Following the announcement of the initial charge, multiple other victims—primarily young men and boys—came forward to accuse him of sexual abuse.
“Zvi Levran exploited his position as a trusted caregiver to abuse patients, including children. He now will be made to account for his crimes,” said Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald. “It’s never easy for sexual abuse victims to tell their stories. The courage of the victims who came forward against Levran helped prevent this predator from abusing future victims. Our community is safer because of their bravery.”
Levran’s 28 total convictions are as follows:
- 2 counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Second Degree
- 10 counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Third Degree
- 12 counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Fourth Degree
- 1 count of Child Sexually Abusive Commercial Activity
- 1 count of Child Sexually Abusive Material - Possession
- 1 count of Child Sexually Abusive Commercial Activity - Aggravated
- 1 count of Child Sexually Abusive Material - Aggravated Possession
