PONTIAC, Mich - Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Robert Paljusevic, a 21-year-old resident of Shelby Township, with Assault with Intent to Murder, Felony Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
On Thursday March 20, at approximately 7am, Paljusevic, a hospital employee, is alleged to have fired seven shots at another hospital employee in the parking garage at the Corewell Beaumont Troy Hospital, striking the victim twice. The victim was leaving the hospital after his shift. The two allegedly knew each other as co-workers and friends. Paljusevic allegedly fled in a vehicle, while the victim went back into the hospital ER to be treated for his injuries. Paljusevic was later arrested at his residence.
Paljusevic was arraigned Sunday by Magistrate Cody Ellwanger. He is currently being held without bond in Oakland County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 31 in District Court 52-4.
“We can be grateful the victim appears to be recovering from his injury, but no one should have to fear violence in the workplace,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “This incident sent the hospital into a lockdown, put local schools on alert, and terrified an entire community. Multiple law enforcement agencies mobilized to quickly and safely apprehend the defendant. Even in a situation where, thankfully, there were no fatalities, the real and emotional cost of gun violence is immeasurable and unacceptable.”
Assault with Intent to Murder is punishable by any number of years in prison up to life. Felony Firearm is punishable by up to two years in prison. Carrying a Concealed Weapon is punishable by up to five years in prison.
Charges are accusations and individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
