PONTIAC, Mich - On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Brittany Indonesia Ivory, a 31-year-old resident of Waterford, with two counts of Unlawful Imprisonment, Second Degree Child Abuse, and Third Degree Vulnerable Adult Abuse.

On September 21, 2024, at approximately 3:30 pm, officers responded to a residence in Waterford where they found a 32-year-old developmentally disabled female bound by duct tape in the backyard. During a search of the home, officers found a 4-year-old child strapped into a stroller in a bedroom. The defendant is the sister and caretaker of the 32-year-old as well as the mother of the 4-year-old. It is alleged that the defendant tied up the victim the previous night and left the home. The victims were transported to the hospital for medical care and the defendant was taken into custody at the Oakland County Jail.

"Caretakers are entrusted to support and protect the safety of individuals in their care,” stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “To use your position of trust to abuse another individual, in this case, a child and a vulnerable adult, is abhorrent. Everyone deserves dignity, respect and to feel secure. My office is committed to holding those who threaten to violate this trust accountable and securing justice for the victims.”

The defendant was arraigned in the 51st District Court on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. The Court set bond at $10,000 cash/surety, no 10% provision. A Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 1, 2024, at 2:30 pm.

Unlawful Imprisonment is a felony punishable by up to 15 years imprisonment and/or a fine up to $20,000. Second Degree Child Abuse is a felony punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment. Third Degree Vulnerable Adult Abuse is a high misdemeanor punishable by up to 2 years imprisonment and/or a fine up to $2,500.
