PONTIAC, Mich. - On Monday, July 22, 2024, Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kwamé Rowe sentenced defendant Adam Richards Williams, a 35-year-old resident of Lake Orion, to 26 - 50 years in prison, exceeding the sentencing guidelines.

Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged Williams with 1st Degree Home Invasion, four counts of 1st Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, and Aggravated Domestic Violence on August 17, 2023. The charges stemmed from the defendant's actions on July 31 and August 1, 2023. After the victim ended a relationship with the defendant, he broke into her home and raped and beat her, including threatening her with a baseball bat. The case was handled by the Chief of the Special Victims Unit, Sarah Greene. After a six-day trial in May of 2024, an Oakland County jury unanimously convicted Williams of all charges. Judge Rowe carefully explained his reasoning for exceeding the sentencing guidelines, noting the defendant's egregious, despicable crimes, as well as the defendant's repeated violations of the Judge's order.

"This was a horrific crime," stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. "My top priorities are public safety and holding violent criminals accountable, and I am so proud of the work of my Special Victims Unit and Chief Sarah Greene. I also applaud Judge Rowe's decision, which will keep our community safe from this dangerous predator and will hopefully provide the victim with some peace, knowing that this defendant will not be able to victimize her or others."
