PONTIAC, Mich. - On July 20, 2024, Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged William Gonzalez Nunez Jr., a 38-year-old resident of Taylor, with Assault with Intent to Murder, Felony Firearm, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

Charges issued are connected to an incident that occurred on July 17, 2024, outside of a bar located near Evergreen Rd and 10 Mile Rd. The defendant and victim were both at the bar when a verbal altercation broke out. CCTV video from the bar shows the defendant leaving the bar's parking lot in his vehicle shortly before the victim left separately in his vehicle. The defendant then allegedly pulled into a side street by the bar and exited his vehicle. The defendant is then alleged to have run up to the victim's vehicle, shooting several times and striking the victim in the chest. Law enforcement responded and the victim was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The defendant was taken into custody and remains at the Oakland County Jail.

"The prevalence of gun violence in our community, and across the state and country, is shocking and unacceptable," stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. "This incident, like so many instances of gun violence, was completely preventable. Public safety is my number one priority, and we will continue to aggressively prosecute violent crime and acts of gun violence. I am also committed to addressing gun violence as a public health crisis and focusing on prevention to reduce the tremendous toll that gun violence takes on our community."

On July 20, 2024, the defendant was arraigned in the 46th District Court before Magistrate Sharon Woodside. The Court set bond at $200,000 cash/surety with a 10% provision. A Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 2, 2024, at 8:30 am before Judge Debra Nance.

Assault with Intent to Murder is a felony punishable by life imprisonment or any term of years and requires DNA to be taken upon arrest. Felony Firearm carries a sentence of two years mandatory imprisonment. Carrying a Concealed Weapon is a felony punishable by up to five years imprisonment and/or up to a $2,500 fine and requires mandatory forfeiture of weapon.

Charges are accusations and individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
