PONTIAC, Mich - On Thursday, May 23, 2024, an Oakland County jury found Marco Bisbikis and Roy Larry guilty as charged for their role in the shooting death of Oak Park jeweler Daniel "Hutch" Hutchinson. Hutchinson was murdered on June 1, 2022, in Oak Park. Two additional defendants, Darnell Larry and Angelo Raptoplous, have already pleaded guilty to related charges.
Oakland County Prosecutor KAREN D. McDONALD charged co-defendants Bisbikis and Larry with First-Degree Premeditated Murder, Conspiracy to Commit First-Degree Premeditated Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, and two counts of Felony Firearm in connection with the murder.
Over the course of the eight-day trial, the prosecution called 21 witnesses and admitted over 200 pieces of evidence. Jurors deliberated for an hour and a half before reaching their unanimous verdict. Chief of Litigation John Skrzynski along with Assistant Prosecutors Rick Polanco and Brandon Barlog led the prosecution team for the Prosecutor's Office. The investigation was led by the Oak Park Department of Public Safety with crucial assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Oakland County Sheriff's Office, and Michigan State Police (MSP).
"The evidence revealed an elaborate and shocking sequence of events that ultimately led to the murder of Dan Hutchinson and the attempted murder of Marisa Hutchinson," stated Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. "I am proud of the diligent work from the trial team and the law enforcement professionals who investigated this case, which allowed us to present the jury with overwhelming evidence. I commend them for their unwavering commitment to justice for the victims and the community. This was a horrible and tragic crime and I hope that today's verdict brings some peace to the family and loved ones of Dan Hutchinson."
Bisbikis and Larry will remain at the Oakland County Jail. Sentencing is set for June 12, 2024, at 11:00 am before Judge Nanci Grant.
First-Degree Premeditated Murder is a felony offense punishable by life imprisonment without eligibility for parole. Conspiracy to Commit First-Degree Premeditated Murder is a felony offense punishable by life imprisonment without eligibility for parole. Assault with Intent to Murder is a felony offense punishable by life imprisonment or any term of years. Felony Firearm carries a sentence of 2 years mandatory imprisonment.
