DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>Oakland County Regional Housing Partnership and Zoning Reform</strong></p><p>Housing is a core planning issue and a hot topic across the state. Michigan’s Statewide Housing Plan, adopted by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) in 2022, notes that Oakland County has a backlog of existing and forecasted housing demand.</p><p>The MSHDA-supported Region L Housing Partnership (RHP) has established three work groups:</p><p><strong><div eds-l-sm-mar-vert-4="" eds-text-bm="" structured-content-rich-text"=""><div><ol>    <li>Address homelessness</li>    <li>Increase the spectrum and supply of housing that is attainable to Oakland County residents</li>    <li>Build support for the changes needed to achieve accessible and affordable housing</li></ol></div></div></strong></p><p>The Housing Stock Workgroup is facilitating the implementation of the new housing needed to meet both existing and forecast demand in the county.</p><p>The supply and cost of housing is an issue everywhere, influenced by many factors, including local zoning. Region L is drawing on Michigan Association of Planning (MAP) tools to assess regulatory barriers that may hinder housing supply and choice.
