The goal of Wireless Oakland is to prepare Oakland County and its workforce for the jobs and technology of tomorrow.  In conjunction with the Emerging Sectors Initiative, it will enhance Oakland County's ability to attract and retain high-tech and nanotechnology corporations. 

Wireless Oakland will also enhance the residential character of our local communities and further distinguish Oakland County as a great place to live, work, and play. It will support a growing mobile workforce and elevate the technical knowledge of its current and future workforces. 

Finally, Wireless Oakland will play a key role in the transformation of government services throughout Michigan and support the continued provision of Oakland County's eGovernment services well into the future.

	Update
	Due to one of the most difficult economic times Michigan and the Nation has ever seen, MichTel Communications was unable to secure funding to continue wireless internet service to the Phase One Communities and to deploy wireless internet service to the remaining portions of the County.  As a result of the lacking of funding, the contract between the County and MichTel Communications expired.  The County's commitment to providing free wireless internet service to every business, resident and visitor remains intact.  The County will continue to actively seek partnerships to bring this goal to fruition.
