Evergreen-Farmington Sewage Disposal System City of Southfield Inflow and Infiltration Projects
The proposed work area is in the Evergreen-Farmington Sewage Disposal System (EFSDS) district. The EFSDS consist of approximately 90% of the City’s sanitary sewer area and is completely contained within the Rouge River Watershed. Based on extensive meter data from the EFSDS meters measuring flows from the City of Southfield, there are a number of sub-districts within the City that are experiencing excessively high wet weather flows as well as sub-districts with high nighttime dry weather flow. The City and WRC proposes to further investigate the sub-districts with the highest wet weather peaking factors and nighttime dry weather flows. Investigation will consist of manhole inspections, smoke testing, nighttime metering and video inspection of sewers. The City of Southfield has received a grant from the Wayne County Rouge Program Office (RPO) for this project. In addition, the WRC has received a grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for similar work in the Evergreen-Farmington Sewage Disposal System. Therefore, it is the intent of the City and WRC to collectively select one consulting firm and award separate contracts with the City and WRC for the work described above.
