Robert Leslie Poxon

Robert Leslie Poxon1/3/1947-6/2/1969, Age 22

Mr. Poxon was from Detroit, MI.  He attended a seminary for a year before going into the service.  He was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.  Since he was single, he said he would go to Vietnam so one less married person would have to go.  He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty.  As platoon leader, he landed by helicopter and came under intense fire from enemy soldiers.  He dashed to the aid of a wounded soldier and was wounded.  He refused medical aid and personally took out an enemy bunker.  He was wounded again but continued his assault.  He was once again struck by enemy fire and mortally wounded by small arms fire.  His troops, inspired by his action, drove the enemy from their positions.
