Mr. Pineau was from Berkley, MI and was fascinated by aircraft as a child. He took his first solo flight the month he turned 16. At the age of 17, he entered the Navy. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During the Vietnam War, he used his skills as a Chief Radar Technician on the airborne radar aircraft, the E-1B. While serving on the U.S.S. Oriskany aircraft carrier, he and a crew of four other men disappeared in the E-1B while on a combat support flight on 10/8/1967 somewhere near Danang, Vietnam. UPDATE - Roland Pineau's remains were returned the U.S. on August 15, 2005 and his remains identified on June 12, 2007.
Mr. Pineau was buried in Arlington National Cemetery on October 9, 2007, 40 years and 1 day from the day he went MIA.
