William Pearl


William Pearl10/26/1925-11/10/1944, Age 19

Mr. Pearl was from Detroit, MI.  He was the radio operator of a B-25 aircraft and assigned to the 499th Bomber Squadron.  The B-25 was hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire while flying at a height of 50 feet over Wewak, New Guinea.  The left engine caught fire and it crash landed into the water.  All the aircraft crew except Corporal Pearl survived the crash and were picked up by Royal Australian Air Force crew.  His body was never recovered.  He was awarded the Silver Star.
