Deputy nabs multiple offender

A deputy with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Lyon Substation arrested a 43-year-old South Lyon man at 8:50 p.m. on April 27 for operating while intoxicated third offense and other offenses after a short car pursuit.

The deputy was conducting radar checks on eastbound I-96 when he observed a vehicle traveling 90 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone. He maintained view of the vehicle and watched it change lanes several times without a traffic signal before catching up to the car and activating his emergency lights.

The suspect did not pull over and the deputy noticed the man looking in his rearview mirror at him. The vehicle continued on I-96 before getting off at the Wixom exit and turning into a Shell gas station.

When the car came to a stop, the deputy ordered the driver out of the car and could smell intoxicants on his person. The suspect gave his name as that of his deceased brother, but later that night at the hospital he stated his real name.

The driver admitted to drinking and, according to the police report, said he would probably blow a .15 percent. The suspect refused the preliminary breath test and was taken to Novi Providence Hospital where his blood was drawn following the issuance of a search warrant.

A LEIN check on the suspect revealed 10 prior OWI convictions and his driver's license was suspended indefinitely and expired. He also had a felony Michigan Department of Corrections absconder warrant for OWI third offense and fleeing and eluding second offense.

Lab results on the blood test are still pending and a warrant package was prepared for fleeing and eluding, OWI third offense, resisting and obstructing, giving false information to a police office and driving while license suspended second offense.
