Coats for the Cold

Oakland County Sheriff's Office, Community Services

Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard is officially kicking off 21st year of the "Coats for the Cold" coat drive on November 1, 2007.  The dates for this year's coat drive are November 1st thru December 3rd.

The "Coats for the Cold" coat drive is sponsored by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with PODS (Portable On Demand Storage), Outback Steakhouse and Real Estate One.  PODS has provided portable storage units around Oakland County for coat collection.  For a full list of drop-off locations, please click here.

New in 2007!!  As part of the annual “Coats for the Cold" coat drive, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, PODS (Portable On Demand Storage), and the Michigan Christmas Show and Marketplace are teaming up to set a new record for the number of coats collected! Any show guest who donates a coat at the POD stationed at the entrance of Rock Financial Showplace during the event will receive $1 off admission to the show. Opening Night Benefit admission does not apply.

Donate a coat and get a $1 of admission at the Michigan Christmas Show and Marketplace at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi, Nov. 29-Dec. 2, 2007.

Real Estate One is, for the second year since the inception of the coat drive, serving as drop-off sites at their locations throughout Oakland County.  Every Oakland County Outback Steakhouse location will also serve as a drop-off site for the third year in a row.

"Coats for the Cold is an easy way for the community to reach out and help someone less fortunate stay warm this winter," Sheriff Bouchard said. "For the past 21 years, we have worked with local charitable organizations to provide free coats to those in need.  The community's generosity has been wonderful.  We want to fill up every one of these PODS with coats and get them to the folks that need them."

The new or clean, used coats collected during the month of November will be given to several different charitable organizations, who will then distribute the coats to those most in need at no cost.
