Communications Unit (Dispatch)

DispatchThe Sheriff's Communications Unit supports all divisions of the Sheriff's Office and provides dispatching services for other police agencies and fire departments. The primary function of the Communications Unit is to answer 911 calls that are placed in Oakland County north of M-59.

The unit is made up of a Chief of Communications, a Quality Assurance Supervisor, six Dispatch Specialists Shift Leaders, 36 Dispatch Specialists and one Office Assistant.


The Communications Unit Center provides dispatching service for the Oakland County Sheriff's Office as well as contractually for Clarkston PD, Lake Angelus PD, Oakland Community College Public Safety, and Wixom PD.  Additionally, contractual dispatching services are provided to the following fire departments around the county: Addison Township, Brandon Township, Commerce Township, Franklin, Bingham, Highland Township, Independence Township, Groveland Township, North Oakland Fire Authority, Royal Oak Township, Springfield Township, and Wixom.

In addition, 911 cellular calls continue to be received at a high volume, and are 69% of the total of all 911 calls received.
