Robert Smith
Major, Law Enforcement Services
Major Robert Smith began his law enforcement career in 1975 attending the Detroit Police Academy. He was hired by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office in 1979 and is currently Commander of the Law Enforcement Services Division.
The Division consists of Patrol Services and Investigative and Forensic Services, as well as the Emergency Preparedness Training & Communications Division.
Major Smith has served in varied assignments in a multitude of capacities throughout his career with the Sheriff's Office.
He previously worked in Technical Services where he spent many years working a variety of investigative assignments, Corrective Services and Patrol Services, including commanding the Marine Division.
Major Smith is a 1975 graduate of Wayne State University with a B.A. in Criminal Justice. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Administration from Central Michigan University in 1998. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 169th Session.
