Major Damon R. Shields
Deputy Chief of Staff

Major Damon Shields is currently Commander of the Law Enforcement Services Division.

The Division consists of Patrol Services and Investigative and Forensic Services, as well as the Emergency Preparedness Training & Communications Division

Major Shields joined the Detroit Police Department in 1969. During his six years in Detroit, he worked both uniform and plain clothes assignments and attended Henry Ford Community College.

Major Shields joined the Sheriff's Office in 1975 and has worked a multitude of assignments. Damon was the departments first field training officer and developed the first state certified police canine training protocol. In 1988, while assigned as the Training Sergeant, he supervised the department selection and transition from revolvers to semi-automatic handguns. Major Shields is one of the better shots in the state and has been named to the prestigious Governors Twenty and has won the Michigan Distinguished Pistol Match.

Major Shields has served as the commander of the Satellite-Corrections Division, and is currently the commander of the Investigative and Forensic Services Division and the Patrol Services Division. On September 11, 2001, the then Captain Shields was part of the Michigan/Sheriff's Office contingent that spent a week at ground zero in New York. In the fall of 2005, Major Shields attended the F.B.I. National Academy and has been recognized many times for his leadership and contributions to the Sheriff's Office.
