Can you tell me who is on a visiting list?
No, only the inmate can give you that information.

Can I find out if I am on the visiting list?
Yes, if you come to the Visitation Desk at the Main Jail and present proper picture identification we can tell you if you are on the visiting list.

Is there a dress code for visitors?

  • No layered clothing.
  • No shorts or skirts more than two inches above the knee.
  • No tank/tube tops or bathing suits.
  • No sleeveless or zippered tops.
  • No skimpy or revealing attire.
  • No jewelry or cell phones.

What do I do if an inmate has a scheduled out-date?
You must check in at the visitation desk. A current LEIN check will be run on the inmate, and if there are no holds, warrants or detainers, inmates will be released in the order their rides appear (as close to 12:01 a.m. as possible).

Once you have been advised that the inmate is clear to be released, you will be directed to the rear of the visitors parking lot where the Inmate will meet you.

Can I bring clothes to an inmate?
Yes, if the inmate signs a property release, you may pick up their property. We are unable to release portions of property; all property must be released.

Please remember that we only hold property of inmates that were arrested by Oakland County. If the inmate was arrested by another police agency their property will be held by the arresting agency. You may go to the police agency that holds the property, get a property release, and bring it to the Oakland County jail to be signed by the inmate.

You may do a clothing exchange for an inmate who is going to trial. If an inmate was arrested and their clothing was held for evidence, or if the clothing is damaged or no longer fits, you may bring in one set of clothing for them to be released in.

Where do I go to pick up property or do a clothing exchange?
For inmates housed at the Main Jail, clothing exchanges and property releases are done at the Main Jail (1201 N. Telegraph, Pontiac, Michigan). There are signs that direct you to the "Clothing Exchange/Property Release" window.

For inmates housed in the Annex, clothing exchange and property releases are done at the "Visitation" window.

All clothing exchanges and property releases are done between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Can I bring personal items for an inmate?
No, everything that an inmate needs can either be purchased through the Jail Commissary or will be provided to the inmate.
