Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard is officially kicking off the 27th year of the "Coats for the Cold" coat drive on November 1st, 2014.  The dates for this year's coat drive are November 1st-November 30th.COAT DRIVE.jpg

The "Coats for the Cold" coat drive is sponsored by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with 1-800-MINI-STORAGE and PODS. A full list of coat drop-off sites is now available.  1-800-MINI-STORAGE is providing the boxes for coat drop-off sites around the county, and has locations in Oak Park and Troy where individuals wishing to donate a coat can bring their donation.  PODS is providing their portable storage units at several drop-off sites as well.

Several local Real Estate One offices, and all of the Genisys Credit Union branches throughout Oakland County are serving as drop-off sites also.  We are grateful to all of our partners for their support!

The Sheriff's Coat Drive is once again partnering with the Oakland County Pet Adoption Center this year.  For every coat donated, up to four coats, an individual wishing to adopt a pet can take $25 off the pet adoption fee, for a maximum discount of $100.  Coat donors may ask the respective drop-off site for a pet adoption coupon at the time of the coat donation.

"Coats for the Cold is an easy way for the community to reach out and help someone less fortunate stay warm this winter," Sheriff Bouchard said. "For the past 27 years, we have worked with local charitable

organizations to provide free cCOATS4COLD.jpgoats to those in need.  The community's generosity has been wonderful.  We want to fill up every one of these boxes with coats and get them to the folks that need them."

The new or clean, used coats collected during the month of November will be given to several different charitable organizations, who will then distribute the coats to those most in need at no cost.
