All signs point disturbingly to tougher economic times ahead for local units of government. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the balance sheets of cities, townships and villages, which are struggling with falling revenues and escalating costs.
No fiscally responsible elected official wants to propose raising taxes or fees.
An alternative approach is intergovernmental cooperation, and Oakland County has pursued such endeavors on many occasions to maintain its long range vision of fiscal responsibility for the benefit of our citizens and virtually guarantee no reduction in service levels or the quality of those services.
