Senior Business

In each of our editions we will honor businesses which have senior friendly policies and/ or customer service. We welcome suggestions from our readers for future recognition. For our fall edition we are pleased to name the following four industries for this recognition:
  • WDIV TV-Channel 4
This is the only Detroit station that offers a locally produced segment for seniors. They are ahead of the curve by recognizing there is a market for older Americans. (See our column, Senior Spotlight, which recognized the reporter for this segment, Dell Warner)

  • All of the major Detroit television and radio stations for their coverage during the recent blackout and for encouraging citizens to look out for their elder neighbors.

  • Holiday Inns
They now offer two bedroom suites with one of the rooms being handicapped accessible. This is a Godsend for children of seniors who are traveling with them or for Caregivers.

  • Comerica Bank
ATM machines now offer larger print to assist in reading the screens.
This recognition in no way assumes an exhaustive roster of senior friendly companies. Nor do we recommend them to customers. This is simply meant to draw attention to senior friendly actions on the part of businesses and to encourage others to do the same. If any of our readers would like to send in suggestions for this column, please e-mail: alexanderl@oakgov.com or write to us at:
