Circulating
Many of the materials in the Research Library can be checked out by eligible members of the public. Some of subjects in the general collection are planning, census, transportation, business and finance, management and public administration
Depository Documents
The Library serves as a partial depository for Government Documents.
Genealogy and Local/Michigan History
This is a developing collection of genealogy and local history materials. Please check our online catalog for specific titles or contact the library with questions.
The Research Library has a collection of the publication: "Oakland County Directories - County, City, Village and Township Officers" back to 1929. You can see them online at: http://www.oakgov.com/reslib/collections/ocdirectories.html
Journals
The Research Library subscribes to more than 250 magazines ranging from professional journals to general interest titles.
Newspapers
The Research Library subscribes to several local newspapers and retains most of them for three months.
The Oakland Press/Pontiac Press is retained on microfilm back to July 1963. Library staff will look for obituaries if provided with an exact date of death.

Oakland County Adoption Network (OCAN)
The OCAN collection contains information useful to those whose lives have been touched by adoption. This collection of books tapes, and other materials on adoption was presented to the Research Library by the Oakland County Adoption Network. OCAN is a community service organization of agencies, professionals, adoptive parents, adoptees, and birth parents who seek to serve those in the community whose lives have been touched by adoption. The collection addresses special needs such as parenting adopted children, parenting in general, overcoming abuse and developing self-esteem. It also contains children's books on being adopted.
Sams PHOTOFACT's
Sams PHOTOFACT's are technical schematics for televisions and radios. These may be borrowed by members of the public who are eligible to use our library. They can also be requested by other member libraries of our cooperative, The Library Network, through interlibrary loan. Interlibrary Loan requests may be made by fax (248) 452-9145 or by e-mail. Please include the set and folder number (Sams Order No.) with your Interlibrary Loan Requests. You can search for the Sams Order No. by Brand Name and Model/Chassis No. at the Howard W. Sams & Company web site.
United Way Non-Profit Management Collection
The United Way collection provides information pertinent to running non-profit organizations. This collection of books, tapes and videos was presented to the Library by the North Oakland United Way to provide information for establishing and managing a non-profit organization. Included in the collection are materials on accounting and budgeting, volunteerism, board membership, fundraising, management, leadership, marketing, strategic planning and team-building.
