Is training required to use this system?

Because the OakWIN system is unlike most other radio systems that public safety officers have used in the past, training is required to familiarize users with the equipment. Details about upcoming training sessions are available in the Training section.

What will be covered in training?

Training consists of the following modules:

1) Overview and policies
2) Portable equipment operation
3) Mobile/control station equipment operation
4) Application scenarios
5) VTAC operation
6) PSAP operation

Where will training sessions be held?

Most training sessions will be held in the field, at police departments, fire stations and hospitals. Details about upcoming training sessions are available in the Training section of this site.

Who will conduct the training?

A cadre of police and fire personnel has been trained as instructors. Police officers will train police and Sheriff's deputies. Firefighters will train firefighters, hospital and EMS providers. Details about the planned training programs are available in the Training section.

How long will training classes be?

The first four modules for field personnel typically take 7-8 total hours to complete depending on the number of personnel in the program. Details about the planned training programs are available in the Training section.
