Warrants Division Frequently Asked Questions

Warrants Division

The Warrants Division administers the authorization of criminal warrants. Warrants Division assistant prosecutors oversee police investigations, review facts, evidence, available witness statements, applicable law and recommend or deny all requests for warrant authorizations.

They also advise police agencies as to proper legal procedures, and prepare search warrants and other documents required in the investigative process.

Since 1988, the Warrants Division has been responsible for the preparation of all juvenile delinquency petitions and child neglect petitions for Probate Court.

Several years ago, in an effort to take advantage of modern technology and make the process more efficient, video-teleconferencing was instituted in the division. Now police departments can confer with prosecutors without being physically present. This cuts down on travel time and keeps the cops on the street, which results in significant savings of tax dollars to both the Prosecutor's Office and the departments.
