Domestic Violence Section
The Domestic Violence Section specializes in prosecuting cases involving abuse within a domestic relationship.
This can spouses, ex-spouses, live-ins, former live-ins, and children in common.
Domestic violence is difficult to prosecute since the victims of domestic violence are often hesitant or uncooperative in prosecutions of their batterers for several reasons:
- financial dependency
- fear of retribution
- or even the possibility of reconciliation
Consequently, Assistant Prosecutors in this section are specially trained and highly experienced in handling these types of cases, and successfully overcoming these obstacles.
Assistant prosecutors in this section also work closely with the courts, police and community service organizations to provide support for victims of domestic violence.
Because of the delicate issues and circumstances involved in domestic violence cases, successful prosecution depends upon the cooperation of all these groups, and the Domestic Violence Section helps to coordinate efforts in bringing these cases to successful conclusion.
