Circuit Court Case Cycle - Pre-trial Conference

Some Judges set a meeting between the defendant's attorney, the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, and the Judge to discuss technical aspects of a case and to decide which, if any, motions, and hearings will be held.

This is called the Pre-trial Conference. Different Judges conduct these conferences in different ways: sometimes in open court, sometimes in the Judge's chambers.

When conducted in open court, the Judge may conduct the conference at the bench and then summarize the results on the record or the entire conference may be on the record. All proceedings held in open court are open to the public.
