Case Cycle - Arraignment

An arraignment is a proceeding where the charges against the defendant are read to him/her.

This is when a defendant will enter a plea to the charges listed upon the complaint and warrant. The arraigning magistrate will then set a bond to ensure the defendant's appearance in court.

If the case is a circuit court misdemeanor or a felony, the matter will be scheduled for a preliminary examination within fourteen days from the date of arraignment.

If the case is a misdemeanor, the matter will be scheduled for either a pre-trial or trial.
