Organizational Overview of the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office
The Prosecuting Attorney is the chief executive officer of the Prosecutor's Office. He is responsible for the overall operation and policies of the Office. Every official action of each Assistant Prosecutor is done in the name of the Prosecuting Attorney and on his behalf.
By law, he has the authority to appoint as many assistant prosecutors, investigators and clerical employees as is authorized by the County Board of Commissioners and the County Executive.
To address the caseload of Michigan's second most populous county and administer the mandated duties prescribed by law, the Prosecuting Attorney's Office maintains the following personnel:
- 108 Attorneys
- 16 Paralegals
- 5 Investigators
- 48 Clerical
- 1 Office Supervisor
- 1 Social Worker
- 1 Victim Services Supervisor
- 6 Student Co-ops
The Office is organized into the Administration, Litigation, Appellate and Warrants and Investigations Divisions. Each division reflects a primary legal function, an individual court responsibility, or particular type of case. This arrangement permits specialized attention by staff attorneys with specific expertise.
Each of the operating divisions is under the direct supervision of a division chief responsible for the daily performance of the division's assigned functions. Implementation of official policy is the responsibility of the chief deputy prosecutor. The chief deputy prosecutor is the second in command, providing primary management and administrative assistance to the prosecuting attorney.
