The group provides research support to multiple County departments and divisions.

Data about Oakland County and its competitors is analyzed and synthesized to form the basis of marketing strategies and includes in-depth Community Profiles for all 61 cities, villages, and townships in the county and a Virtual Data Book - extensive compendium of data and lists covering everything from major employers and labor market information to site location assistance and educational attainment statistics about the county, the region, and our competitors.

The Market Research Group spearheaded the Emerging Sectors initiative by identifying the next generation of international growth industries which resulted in new economic development programs, prepares competitive advantage reports and compiles and analyzes data to produce presentations in support of new business attraction and retention projects.

The Market Research Group also tracks all non-residential development in Oakland County in support of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's annual site selection competition which has led to a designation by Site Location Magazine as a leading state for economic development growth for 10 years in a row.

Staff also prepare analysis and provide data for the County's Biennial Budget Book and the yearly Financial Services summary report.
