Oakland County's Green Infrastructure Visioning Project

Phase IV - Funding Green Infrastructure

Communities that have created a comprehensive green infrastructure plan are faced with the challenge of identifying and securing long-term funding to implement their vision.

Successful community conservation initiatives are based on a well-diversified funding mechanism that supplements consistent, local funding revenues with a variety of federal, state, and private financing measures.

Several SE MI communities have successfully pursued and passed conservation financing ballot measures to protect and restore their remaining natural areas and open spaces.

Because each community is unique, the combination of funding measures used to create successful conservation programs will vary. Nonetheless, the following documents provide general but useful approaches communities should consider when securing funds to implement their local green infrastructure conservation programs.
