Large Woody Debris Management (LWDM) Workshop
An educational opportunity brought to you by the OakRivers Initiative.
Workshop on Large Woody Debris Management: An Important Part of Managing River Corridors in Urban Watersheds.
Large woody debris in rivers includes snags, logjams, and other debris dams. Woody debris provide critical aquatic habitat and is a natural component of river systems. Large accumulations of woody debris resulting from high volumes of stormwater runoff in urban watersheds can have negative impacts on recreational uses, flooding, and bank erosion. Management of woody debris in urban rivers requires careful thought and planning.
This workshop will provide an overview of Large Woody Debris Management (LWDM), including a project undertaken by the City of Rochester Hills to develop a management plan for large woody debris in the Clinton River. A Primer on Large Woody Debris Management prepared for the city of Rochester Hills by JFNew, will be discussed.
