The Fridge Toboggan Run Open for the Season

The Fridge, Michigan's only refrigerated toboggan run is now open with snow, or no, at Waterford Oaks County Park.

"We use the latest in icing technology to ensure the fastest, smoothest ride," Rachel Meyers, park supervisor, said. "Our toboggans plunge down a 55-foot vertical drop then carry riders almost 1,000 feet at speeds greater than 30 miles an hour." 
 
 Wooden toboggans are provided and transported by park staff. Riders must be 30 inches tall. Ages 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Mittens or gloves are required.

"The Fridge offers up north outdoor fun, close to home," Meyers said. "This year we're offering midnight tobogganing, snowshoe schools, and more to make a visit to The Fridge an exciting destination."

Special activities include: midnight tobogganing with a bonfire and marshmallows, 7 p.m. - 1 a.m., January 11 and February 15; Snowshoe Schools, January 12 & 20 and February 9 & 17; Fun Films with free popcorn, 7 p.m.: January 17, Ice Age; and February 28, Happy Feet.; and "Get Your Game On" game nights with prizes, 4 - 9:30 p.m.: January 30 and February 8.

A Kiddie Sledding Hill, adjacent to The Fridge, offers a traditional sledding experience. Guests must bring their own sleds. The lighted hill has a 10-foot incline.

The Lookout Lodge warming facility features a fireplace, indoor/outdoor viewing areas, concessions and restrooms.

Tickets are: $10 regular rate; $7 Oakland County resident discount rate; $4 children 30 - 43 inches tall; and $2.50 single ride, which can be applied to the daily rate.

Discounted entry is available for affiliated groups of 10 or more on Monday, Tuesday and Sunday. Scout Night is every Wednesday, 4 - 9:30 p.m. beginning January 2 offering discounted entry of $4 /scout.
